African Drumming – Join A Soulful Adventure!
Music
Date: Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Time: 06:30 PM
Duration: 2 Hours

No prior musical training necessary. Join this exciting introduction to the lively drumming and vocal music of the Ewe people of Ghana, West Africa. Using authentic hand carved drums from Ghana, participants learn to perform this indigenous music in an ensemble setting from a leader who has traveled and studied extensively in the region. It promises to be not only a musical adventure, but an adventure in community-building. It may also be just the kind of soul-opening experience you are looking for as you prepare for Easter in the coming season of Lent.

When: Tuesdays, February 2 through March 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., culminating in performances at Trinity on Easter Morning, April 4. (No session Feb. 16.)

Who: Up to 16 participants, high school ages and older. The leader is Jeremy Cohen (for more about him and this art form, see: www.ThisWorldMusic.com.

Where: Forum, downstairs in Trinity’s Undercroft.

Requirements: Participants must pay a fee of $100 for the nine-week adventure, must commit to attending at least eight of the nine sessions, and must be available to perform with the drumming ensemble on Easter morning, April 4. Drums will be provided for all sessions. Participants’ fees partially cover rental of the drums and the leader's stipend. Need-based scholarship assistance is available.
