Disaster Relief

The parish of Trinity Church has often been a refuge and a comfort during times of local, national or worldwide crisis. After tragic events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the 2005 London bombings, the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, and Hurricane Katrina, Trinity has hosted citywide interfaith services to provide a safe place to grieve, pray, and hope together. In addition to services, Trinity Church takes several actions when disasters strike. Special collections are taken for emergency efforts, often donated through Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). ERD supplies food, water, and medicine immediately, and when the crisis is over, they help to rebuild by working hand-in hand with local communities to build new homes, plant crops, create clean water systems, construct clinics and schools, and offer critical post trauma counseling. After Katrina, Trinity was active in Mass Faith Helps, an interfaith organization that came together to support and where possible, help to re-settle families who had left the Gulf Coast for Massachusetts. Our Children & Families and Youth Ministries organized drives to provide clothing, supplies, and dollars to an extended New Orleans family of 70 who were displaced to Texas.
In January 2008, two teams of Trinity parishioners will travel to New Orleans to help in the rebuilding effort.
When there is a disaster, the parishioners of Trinity act to support our brothers and sisters in need.
