Attend to the Anthem: The Impact of Greta Tomlins

Date: May 16, 2021
Time:
9:30 am to 9:45 am

On most Sundays at 9:30 am, (prior to 9:45 Worship from Home), the music staff will host a Zoom session to introduce a new hymn or canticle that will then be featured in the service.

The choir’s anthem today is a setting of George Herbert’s (remember him from April 11) poem, “Let all the world in every corner sing” by the English composer Greta Tomlins (1912-1972). A fervent champion of women’s education, as lecturer at the all-female Homerton College, Cambridge, she made choir participation compulsory. Colin will enlighten us about the fascinating musical mark she made.
