Mentors for College Behind Bars agree that the experience has been transformative in many ways. Most importantly, it allows us to “encounter the other,” breaking down socioeconomic and racial barriers, to convene as fellow human beings who learn from one another. Being a mentor does not require much time, allows for flexibility in scheduling, and is an opportunity to be part of a supportive team.
