Prayers from Sunday's Parish Update

January 29, 2019

Last Sunday, January 27, we prayed together at the beginning of the Parish Update and again at the end.  At the request of several parishioners, here are those prayers.

A Prayer for the Strengthening of our Life Together

Lord Christ, our foundation at all times:
Strengthen us in holy fellowship during our time of transition.
Fill us with your love so that we may be curious,
            be welcoming, and belong.
Draw us closer to you through deeper bonds with one another
            and through widening outreach to our community.
Inspire us to be generous in giving our time, talent, and treasure
            to further the good works you have begun in our midst.
We ask this in your holy Name.
Amen.

Prayer by the Rt. Rev. Phillips Brooks

O God:

Give us strength to live another day;
Let us not turn coward before its difficulties
or prove recreant to its duties;

Let us not lose faith in other people;
Keep us sweet and sound of heart, in spite of ingratitude, treachery, or meanness;
Preserve us from minding little stings or giving them;

Help us to keep our hearts clean, and to live so honestly and fearlessly
that no outward failure can dishearten us or take away the joy of conscious integrity;

Open wide the eyes of our souls that we may see good in all things;
Grant us this day some new vision of thy truth;
Inspire us with the spirit of joy and gladness;
And make us the cup of strength to suffering souls;

in the name of the strong Deliverer,
our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
